Dudhsagar Waterfall from Goa: How to Go, When to Go & What to Carry

Dudhsagar Falls is one of the most popular day trips out of Goa. It is also one where timing and logistics matter, because access depends on the season and rules change. Here is what to know before you go.

What and where is Dudhsagar?

Dudhsagar is a multi-tiered waterfall on the Mandovi river, on the Goa and Karnataka border, in the Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary and Mollem National Park. The name means 'sea of milk', after the foamy white water.

How to get there

Most visitors drive to the Kulem (Collem) area, then take a licensed jeep through the forest for the last stretch, with a few shallow stream crossings. The jeep ride is bumpy and part of the fun.

Trekking along the railway line has been restricted, so use the official jeep route. Rules, entry fees and operating arrangements can change, so confirm the latest details before travelling.

Best time to go

The waterfall is at its fullest in and just after the monsoon, but access is often closed or restricted during heavy rain for safety. Many people choose October to February, when the flow is good and the weather is easier. Check current conditions before you travel.

What to carry

  • Shoes with a good grip and a change of clothes.
  • A towel and a small waterproof bag for your phone.
  • Water, sun protection and some cash.
  • A government photo ID, which is sometimes asked for at the entry point.

Getting there from your hotel

The easiest way is a private cab that takes you to the jeep point, waits and brings you back. Start early, since jeep queues grow through the morning, and plan lunch on the way back.
