Best Time to Visit Goa: Month-by-Month Guide

Goa changes a lot through the year. The beaches that are packed in December can be empty and rain-lashed in July. Here is what each season is actually like, so you can choose the right month.

October to February: peak season

This is the classic Goa season. The weather is dry and pleasant, beach shacks and water sports are open, and the nightlife is at its best. December and early January are the busiest, with higher hotel and taxi prices and heavy traffic. November and February are good choices if you want most of the benefits with slightly lower crowds.

March to May: hot and quiet

Temperatures and humidity rise, and the beach crowds thin. Prices fall, and it can be a good time for budget travel, though midday is hot. Some seasonal shacks start to close towards the end of the period.

June to September: monsoon

Goa turns green and very wet. Rates are at their lowest, but swimming is generally unsafe, water sports stop and many beach shacks are closed. It suits people who want waterfalls, greenery and quiet resorts rather than beach days. Dudhsagar Falls is spectacular in this period, though access can be restricted.

Festivals and events

Christmas and New Year are the biggest periods and need early booking. Goa Carnival is usually held in February or March, with parades in Panjim and other towns. Check dates for the year you travel.

Which month should you pick?

  • Best weather and full beach scene: November to February.
  • Fewer crowds with decent weather: early November or February.
  • Lowest prices: June to September (accept the rain).
  • Honeymoon or quiet break: early season, before mid-December.
